And where things fall apart... Just where you are, that's the place to start. - Pema Chodron.
Welcome to the present moment, as if you had invited it. It is all you have. BUT what I have realised, even today, are that these words from the well renowned female buddhist Pema are incredibly wise... the essential ingrediant in that present moment is tuning in to your needs. If you are anything like me, you love that feeling of spontaneity, embracing life and especially in the present moment, rolling with it, being unaware of time and pursuing things even when you know that they may only last for that moment. You can get carried away. My mum even offered me her words of wisdom over the xmas and highlighted to me personally that it is both my beauty and my beast, that I can get swept away in the moment and be blissfully entrenched in it, so much so that like a lucid dream I get carried along and then suddenly I wake up and ask myself, oh how did I get here? Before i know it, life has presented itself full of those moments and taken a new form, whether it be with people in it that appeared oneway or the direction that it has taken. I guess what I am drawing attention to, is that even in the present moment you have the gift of being able to make a choice. You have the duty to yourself to connect and ensure that your needs are being met. It is very easy for that moment to become a lifetime and with this one precious life, make the choice that offers you the ultimate best way of living in it that you can. The beauty is that these moment to moment experiences give you the opportunity for growth. They say that the things that hang around are the things that still have lessons to offer you. I love that thought. We too can invade other peoples lives but remember that their emotions and life choices are not yours to own, so it's important that they too can make their own and let them. No need to direct or control the choices of another, simply be present and watch their life unfold, with or without you in it. Trust your intuition and be aware of desire being the main thing that can cloud that judgement at times but in the silent moments, you can reconnect and you will know.
To live fully is to be always in no-man's-land, to experience each moment as completely new and fresh... As human beings, not only do we seek resolution, but we also feel that we deserve resolution. However, not only do we not deserve resolution, we suffer from resolution. We don't deserve resolution; we deserve something better than that. We deserve our birthright, which is the middle way, an open state of mind that can relax with paradox and ambiguity.
So as we have, I hope, already begun to sit in silence, this week we will begin this way, taking the time to reflect on our moment to moment choices and the direction and intentions we wish to manifest. I find that taking myself completely away from the task in question, inspires new thought and in turn creates the space in my mind that I need to welcome the new approach to living in life the way that I intend to. I attended a friends very inspired 42nd birthday at the weekend and the moto of the night where many of us shared our gifts and talents and what we thought, as the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy believes, the meaning of life is. The moto was 'feel the fear, but do it anyway'. I also watched the film 'Inside out'. A kids film that in actual fact didnt feel very child friendly but upon reflection, was a continuation of that thought and showed some beautiful acts of selflessness that is above all needed in this dance of life, moments and choices. One step here, another step there, you will fall down but how do you choose to get back up again? The tendency is to rush it all - expectation arising to achieve the ultimate. Scrap that! I encourage that if you have achieved nothing by February. Good! Let this all unfold at its own pace, so that 'hallelujah' you might just enjoy the ride.
See you back on your mats this week!!!!!!!! We will move, breathe and sit in stillness to cultivate fearlessness and awaken a compassionate heart.
Bliss in the paradox and ambiguity.
