2019 may be a year like no other for redefining future vision, while making groundbreaking progress toward sustainable and positive change. - Anandashree
After the new moon/ solar eclipse of the weekend, this week we will open our year with a practice focused around Vishuddha Chakra. A solar eclipse is considered an omen for change, as is a new moon - but in conjunction with one another, it’s a powerful time, not to be ignored. Sometimes, its karmic, the energy of our fate and karma are flowing and past lives and how our souls are evolving, how the world changes, relating to one another and ourselves.
“Pure, clear or Virtuous”, Vishuddha Chakra symbolises purity and harmony in the entirety of ones being.
It’s interesting, as in my evening home practice over the past week, I have gravitated towards jalandara bandha, towards shoulder and headstands and strengthening asana around the head, neck and shoulders. I two have found myself in meditation and mudras that i’ve placed above the heart region of the body, typically in the third eye region or throat space. I didn’t read anything in to it and I simply retained my practice being one which came instinctually. It wasn’t until I sat down and thought about the offerings that I wished to share with you all this year and how I wished to welcome us all back in connection together again, when I realised this chakra as the one which I have unconsciously been working with. Maybe it’s because love and truth have been very much in consideration of late. As you connect with all relationships, be it family, social with friends, intimate partners or new beings, you start to awaken to what it is that you are searching for, what it is that you have and maybe whats been lost in love. This is about connection at a profound and deep level and ultimately what we do to connect to the self. All of it is potent experiences that facilitate us looking in and seeing what is needed in the self for greater liberation and happiness.
This chakra is associated with space or the element of ether. The moon and the stars were mind blowing on new years eve, as I looked up to the heavens with my friend and indulged in the clear night sky in Wales, it offered up so much freedom and clear seeing that has resonated since. the space and the stars in the sky are remaindered of the inner light and the space we can create from within, the insane potential of the unknown and living presence of the indescribable and out of reach experiences all around us at all times. What was also apparent and obvious, was the human basic and raw need of connection and love, to essentially give us a greater sense of balance in our daily lives. This chakra is situated in the throat space and below it are our lower chakras that when at ease, assist us in finding a greater balance in our whole lives.
What I have distinctly noticed this past week or so, is that by practicing asana and breath that works directly with this region, I have felt immediately more love and more energy flowing from within. It may sound tripe hippy to you, but all I can say is my direct experience and invite you to explore how it is for you, in anything that I share. This is in the form of self love primarily and in doing so, getting to know the self. The heightened state of energy and positivity that i have experience flowing in the morning after an evening practice of this kind, has been transformative, as health improves and vitality is lifted.
What you may also experience is a prana flow and expression of voice that is more true. Your appetite regulates, as you regulate. The feelings of constriction or of being pulled in opposing directions lessens, as we are filled up more with the light of compassion and love, it becomes easier to get this sense of balance in the flow of our breath and our energetic state of being as feel to be evident.
Essentially, as energy passes through the heart, the anahata chakra, it brings with it a greater sense of inner wisdom, travelling upwards bringing a feeling of ease to share our truth, as we experience it. This is pretty massive, considering this has become much harder for many people as they live often quite disconnected or shutdown in forms of love and communication to themselves, we could suggest.
Our communication therefore begins to improve and possibly becomes much clearer. as we become clearer in the self and we are able to express ourselves more clearly too.
So this week I’d like to share with you the words stability, creativity and willfulness, not just as words but also as qualities. We will play with these in class, in all their forms, as they emanate from the balanced quality of the muladhara, svadhisthana, manipura and anahata chakras, and rise up towards Vishuddha.
Ultimately we will explore using our practice of yoga as a way of opening to feeling the emergence of a clearer consciousness.
Practicality, we will look to provoke realness and truth and coming to terms of what is real and true for us. we will aim to move towards victory over our obstacles and ending the creative tools to enable us to create a discernment to judge what we really need in our lives. To separate the impurities we are carrying, which requires taking time, patience, closure and persistence, to separate out what is needed and what is not. This year is a time of getting to know what is actually necessary in life. To do this, we learn to sacrifice and surrender, in order to liberate ourselves. We choose to focus how we spend our energy and our time. As we do this practice, we use our will and form greater stability and awareness of how we invest and grow, finding truer happiness and satisfaction. Maybe we can also begin to understand that it is all and isn’t in our hands, that it is inseparable from all other beings and manifestations of reality.
What a better way to start 2019 than beginning our focus on becoming clearer, purer and more virtuous :)
Namaste to you all and welcome to 2019. See you back on the mats! x
